First United Methodist Church of Benton is reaching out to others in a spirit of brotherly love. It is under the mandate of Jesus Christ that we are involved in doing ministry, both at home and far away.
Among our mission activities:
CJCOHN - We support and are actively engaged in the Churches Joint Council on Human Needs. This is a cooperative program on the part of several churches in the he community to provide food, clothing, and other personal goods for the persons in such need locally. We pledge annually an amount for financial support, but more importantly, we have many members of the ecumenical mission cause.
Chili Cook-off - One of the most popular fellowship events in our church gives the local chefs a chance to shine, while raising money for the mission events sponsored by our church throughout the year.
World-Wide Mission - As United Methodist, we are engaged in all kinds of missionary and educational work throughout the world. Our involvement here is done through annual mission studies coupled with our church's acceptance of the conference benevolent program. The year ends with World Hunger Awareness Day, a festival sharing a local harvest of baked goods, a health expo celebration, and a marketplace sponsored by Heifer Project International.
Lenten Offering - This is a special offering received on Easter Sunday. The money is used to support other churches, Camp Aldersgate, Heifer Project International, or any other worth mission which the work area of missions may select.
Hunger Hike - The annual Hunger Hike, sponsored by the Mission Committee, is a walk/run around a mapped-out course. Before the hike, walkers/runners solicit sponsors from among their family members, friends, and business associated who pledge a specific amount of money for each mile completed by the walker/runner. The money raised goes to CJCOHN.
Ozark Mission Project - Teams of youth and adults go to lend a helping hand to those who, for financial and/or physical reasons, can not maintain their homes 8th graders and above. There is also a weekly Bible study.
